For my father, an immigrant whose life was a mosaic of could-have-been, storytelling was a way to keep the essence of who he was intact. Navigating the deep waters of sorrow is a journey through stories that often do not originate from us but become intertwined with our narratives, passed down through generations and imprinted on our psyche and genes. These stories, laden with unexpressed trauma from our ancestors, become burdens we carry unknowingly, making the sorrow we feel a collective weight of experiences. It is in understanding and releasing these traumas through methods like Creative Experiencing, a process that transforms trauma into shared stories, that we can begin to move from a state of immobilization to one of fluidity, reclaiming our narratives and connecting with the internal forces that demand expression and healing.
